Reformate is a product obtained from the catalytic reforming of crude oil, containing high-octane hydrocarbons, primarily aromatic compounds. It is mainly used as a fuel additive and as a source of valuable chemical compounds in the petrochemical industry. Reformate ranges from colorless to light yellow with a characteristic hydrocarbon odor.
Features:
- High octane number (approx. 90–100)
- Contains aromatic hydrocarbons and branched alkanes
- Colorless to light yellow, hydrocarbon odor
Applications:
- Increase gasoline octane rating and improve engine performance
- Solvent in chemical and petrochemical industries
- Raw material for production of aromatic compounds and basic chemicals
Technical Specifications
- Composition: Aromatic hydrocarbons and branched alkanes
- Density: 0.78–0.82 g/cm³ at 15°C
- Boiling Point: 80–210°C (depending on composition)
- Color: Colorless to light yellow
- Odor: Hydrocarbon, characteristic
Hazards and Safety
- Flammable; keep away from heat and flames
- Skin and eye contact must use protective equipment

Industrial Applications
- Oil & Energy Industry: improve gasoline octane and fuel quality
- Petrochemical Industry: source of aromatic compounds for chemical production
- Industrial Solvent: for extraction processes and chemical reactions
In the 1960s, catalytic reforming processes were introduced to produce high-octane gasoline. Reformate quickly became one of the most important products in the fuel industry.
Research in 2022 shows that high-aromatic reformates can be used in the production of advanced fuels with lower emissions and higher efficiency for modern engines. Scientific Source
